The sunset moment at the Golden Temple, when the gold dome catches the last light and the sarovar goes glass-still, is the state's iconic view. Best angle is from the western causeway looking east across the water, roughly 15 minutes before official sunset. For an elevated view, book a rooftop table at Brothers' Amritsar (Heritage Street, opens 5pm) or the terrace at Charming Chandigarh Hotel — both put you above the pilgrim crowd. The Ram Bagh Gardens' western terrace is a quieter alternative if the temple's density gets too much.
Chandigarh's water and hills
Sukhna Lake at the foot of the Shivalik hills catches a proper long sunset — walk the 3km promenade from Sector 1 to the boating station starting an hour before sunset.
