Gurdaspur itself is a functional district town with no major tourist infrastructure, but the district contains one of the most significant recent developments in Sikh pilgrimage: the Kartarpur Corridor. Opened in 2019, it allows visa-free access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan — where Guru Nanak spent his final 18 years and died. The Indian side of the corridor at Dera Baba Nanak (30km from Gurdaspur town) is now a major pilgrimage node with new infrastructure and terminal buildings.
By 9pm Gurdaspur town is quiet — this is not a nightlife destination. Skip: expecting sights in the town itself. Suits: Kartarpur Corridor pilgrims, Pathankot-Amritsar road-trippers, border-region completists. Skip if you’re not doing the Corridor and not on this specific route — Gurdaspur has less to offer as a destination than Batala or Pathankot.

For Kartarpur Corridor pilgrims, hotels in Dera Baba Nanak (30km away, closer to the crossing) are more convenient — a new tourism infrastructure is developing. Getting around Gurdaspur
No airport — Amritsar (75km, taxi $28) is closest. Gurdaspur railway station is on the Amritsar-Pathankot line, regular trains $2-4. Buses from Amritsar every 20 minutes, $1.50, 1.5 hours. For Kartarpur Corridor, take a bus or taxi from Gurdaspur to Dera Baba Nanak (30km, $8 taxi, $1 bus every 30 min). Inside town autos $1 for most trips.

Report to the Dera Baba Nanak terminal by 8am, cross the border, spend up to 5-6 hours at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan, return by 5pm. 5,000 pilgrim daily limit; foreigners welcome.
Only if you have an early Kartarpur Corridor slot and want to be closer to Dera Baba Nanak — even then, Dera Baba Nanak itself has newer accommodation now. As a destination on its own, Gurdaspur town has little to offer beyond function. Amritsar (75km) or Pathankot (35km) are better bases for the area.
